Animal Rescue, Domestic Violence and Anti-Patriarchy: Why Tree Fairy Supports All Three
Animal rescues will always have a place in Tree Fairyβs heart. That hasnβt changed. What is changing is that weβre spreading our support further, across animal rescue, domestic violence causes and efforts to challenge patriarchy.
Not because animals matter less. Because caring about one thing doesnβt mean we have to stop caring about everything else.
Compassion isnβt a single-use sachet. Thereβs enough to go around.
Animal rescue still matters
Animals deserve safety, care and a life free from cruelty. The people doing rescue work deserve support, too. Theyβre the ones taking in animals who have been abandoned, neglected or let down, then doing the daily work of helping them recover.
We still care about that. Deeply.
Broadening Tree Fairyβs support isnβt us turning our backs on animal rescues. Itβs recognising that protecting animals and protecting people can be more connected than they first appear.
How domestic violence and animal rescue are connected
For someone experiencing domestic violence, leaving isnβt always just about getting themselves out. It can mean trying to get their animals to safety, too.
An abusive partner may threaten or hurt a pet to frighten, punish or control someone. The bond between a person and their animal becomes something the abuser can exploit.
And when someone doesnβt have a safe place to take their pet, that can become another barrier to leaving. Getting yourself to safety while leaving an animal you love with someone you fear is not a small thing.
βJust leaveβ is already a spectacularly unhelpful response to domestic violence. It doesnβt magically produce safe housing, money, transport or somewhere for the dog.
This is where domestic violence support and animal welfare meet. Pet-friendly crisis accommodation, emergency foster care and help caring for animals can be part of making a safe exit possible.
Not every animal rescue provides these services. But the connection matters. Sometimes an animal needs somewhere safe because their human does, too.
Nobody should have to choose between their own safety and the safety of an animal they love.
Why Tree Fairy supports domestic violence causes
Everyone deserves to feel safe in their own home.
Not frightened of someoneβs reaction. Not controlled through money, threats or isolation. Not made to feel that keeping the peace is their responsibility while somebody else keeps causing the harm.
Domestic violence is not limited to physical violence. Control, intimidation and financial abuse matter, too.
Supporting domestic violence causes fits what Tree Fairy stands for: dignity, autonomy and the right to live without someone else deciding what youβre allowed to be.
People of any gender can experience domestic violence. Our concern for someone experiencing abuse doesnβt come with a gender test, a judgement about why they stayed or a demand that they explain themselves well enough to deserve help.
Safety shouldnβt have entry requirements.
Anti-patriarchy: challenging control, not blaming every man
Tree Fairy is a feminist natural skincare business. That isnβt a decorative word we bring out when thereβs a conveniently timed marketing opportunity.
When we talk about challenging patriarchy, we mean challenging the power structures and expectations that put men above women, reward domination and tell people to stay in their assigned gender boxes.
We donβt mean every man is an abuser. We mean nobody should be entitled to control another person, and the attitudes that excuse that control deserve scrutiny.
That includes the expectations that women should be compliant, men should always be in charge and anyone outside those categories needs to justify their existence.
They donβt.
Being anti-patriarchy isnβt a claim that every experience of abuse is identical. It means refusing to accept gender, tradition or βthatβs just how relationships workβ as an excuse for inequality and control.
Control is not care. Fear is not respect. And a person is not somebody elseβs property.
Why is a skincare business talking about this?
Because selling moisturiser doesnβt require us to switch off our values.
The beauty industry has spent plenty of time telling people how they should look, how they should age and which perfectly ordinary features apparently need an urgent intervention.
Women are told to look younger. Men are told not to look too interested in looking after themselves. Everyone gets a rulebook, and somehow thereβs always another product to buy.
Tree Fairy rejects the rulebook.
Healthy skin is the point. Not making yourself more acceptable, more obedient, more feminine, more masculine or easier for somebody else to approve of.
Weβre not suggesting that beauty standards and domestic violence are the same thing. They arenβt.
We are saying our position is consistent: your body is yours. Your identity is yours. Your worth is not decided by how well you meet somebody elseβs expectations.
Those values donβt stop at the bathroom shelf.
Spreading support, not replacing one cause with another
Animal rescue remains part of Tree Fairyβs support. Weβre widening that support to include domestic violence causes and efforts to challenge patriarchy, not deciding that animals suddenly matter less.
These arenβt competing concerns.
An animal may need protection from the same person their human needs protection from. A person may need help finding safety that doesnβt require leaving their pet behind. And challenging attitudes that excuse ownership and control belongs alongside helping those affected by them.
This isnβt a competition over who deserves compassion most. Weβre not handing out a trophy for suffering.
Itβs about making room for the connections and putting our support behind the values we talk about.
Natural skincare with a feminist backbone
If youβre looking for natural skincare in Australia from a business that cares about animal welfare, supports domestic violence causes and isnβt afraid to challenge patriarchy, thatβs what we want you to understand about Tree Fairy.
Buying skincare isnβt going to dismantle patriarchy by Thursday. Thatβs a fairly unreasonable workload for a moisturiser.
But running a business gives us choices about what we stand for and where we direct our support. We want those choices to mean something.
Weβre here for healthy skin. Weβre also here for less cruelty, less control and fewer people being told to know their place.
People and animals deserve safety. Compassion doesnβt need to pick a side.
No beauty standards. No self-proclaimed influencers. No gender roles. Just healthy skin. And healthy skin is your best skin.
