Why Our Natural Skincare Has Funny Names, Not Beauty Standards
Apparently, skincare is supposed to sound terribly serious.
A name that sounds like a laboratory password. A promise to correct something you hadnβt realised was wrong with you. A bottle that looks as though it requires a mortgage application.
We went with Wash The Dish.
Because making damn good skin and hair care does not require us to lose our sense of humour. And looking after yourself should not come with a lecture about how youβre supposed to look.
Welcome to Tree Fairy. Australian-made natural skincare with cheeky names, feminist values and absolutely no interest in turning your face into somebody elseβs project.
Funny skincare names. Serious care.
There's Nothing Wrong With A Pommy Honey Face Moisturiser is not trying to sound like it has just returned from a conference on the molecular architecture of looking expensive.
It is a face moisturiser. It has a personality. It can sit on your bathroom shelf without making you feel as though youβve enrolled in advanced chemistry.
Then thereβs Be The Scrubber, Love The Scrubber Face Exfoliating Scrub.
Yes, we called it that. Yes, weβre pleased with ourselves.
A facial exfoliator can do its job without telling you to scrub away your inadequacies. Youβre washing your face, not apologising for having one.
And Wash The Dish Cream Face Cleanser? Your face is the dish. Give it a wash. No judgement, no grand transformation narrative, no need to emerge from the bathroom as a completely different person.
You can still be you. Just with a clean face.
Natural body care with a personality, not a superiority complex
Our body blends have names because weβd rather make you smile than make you feel insufficient.
I'm No Ginger Whinger! has a bit of sass before youβve even opened the bottle.
I'm A Warrior Fairy! brings the attitude. Fairy does not mean fragile, and warrior does not mean you have to spend your entire day being strong for everybody else.
Never Mind Fairy, I'm Angelic! sounds like an excellent defence. We cannot guarantee anyone will believe it.
And Napocalypse Now? Sometimes the day has been quite enough day, thank you very much.
These names belong in real life. The life where youβre tired, laughing, swearing at something that should have taken five minutes, or finally getting a moment to yourself.
Your body care does not need to behave like a luxury hotel receptionist who has silently assessed your shoes.
Hairy Fairy, You've Got Great Hair!
Hair care deserves to have some fun too.
Hairy Fairy, You've Got Great Hair! is our shampoo and conditioner range, not an invitation to spend your life chasing whatever hair trend has been declared compulsory this week.
No gender rules. No requirement to have a particular haircut, colour or identity to belong here.
Just natural hair care with a name you might actually enjoy saying.
Try saying it with a completely straight face. Weβll wait.
Feminist skincare does not sell you a new insecurity
Tree Fairy is a feminist skincare brand. That is not code for βpink packaging, but make it empoweringβ.
It means we reject the idea that anyone owes the world a particular appearance. Women do not owe youth. Men do not owe ruggedness. Nobody owes femininity, masculinity or a face that has been approved by strangers.
Skin is not a gender role.
We are anti-beauty standards because caring for your skin and being judged on your appearance are not the same thing. We are anti-self-proclaimed-influencer because we are not interested in someone appointing themselves the authority on what everybody else should look like.
You do not need an influencerβs permission to like yourself. You certainly do not need it to wash your face.
Anti-influencer skincare that disrupts the so-called beauty industry
Our funny names are not separate from our values. They are part of them.
An industry that takes itself very seriously can become remarkably comfortable telling people they are not good enough. We would rather interrupt that conversation.
With a scrubber. A hairy fairy. Possibly a napocalypse.
We take our natural skincare seriously. We do not take beauty standards seriously.
Australian-made, vegan, cruelty-free and palm oil-free skincare
Our Australian-made skin and hair care is natural, cruelty-free, vegan and palm oil-free. Those are the things we want behind the label. Not an elaborate story about why your perfectly ordinary human face urgently needs fixing.
Doing better means changing the conversation as well as making the products.
Less pressure. More personality. Care without the condescension.
You can have standards without selling beauty standards
Funny names do not mean we care less. They mean we refuse to confuse being solemn with being good.
We want you to enjoy reaching for your skincare. To smile at the label. To look after your skin and hair without being handed another imaginary flaw to worry about.
Just damn good skin and hair care.
And, when the opportunity presents itself, a very decent pun.
No beauty standards. No self-proclaimed influencers. No gender roles. Just healthy skin. And healthy skin is your best skin.
