Why Healthy Skin is Your Best Skin (And Why the Beauty Industry Can Get Stuffed)
Let's get one thing straight. The beauty industry has spent decades telling you what your skin should look like. Poreless. Ageless. A blank, monotone canvas that apparently belongs on a wall in a gallery, not on an actual human face.
And if you're a woman of a certain age? Congratulations, you're now invisible. Society said so.
Here's the thing though. Invisible is actually a superpower. No one's watching. No one's judging. You can just... live, unbothered and peaceful. I know I love that part, as we have always suffered at the opinion of others on how we look, how we are too much, or not enough.
Forget glass skin. Forget whatever made-up ingredient some brand just trademarked and tripled their prices over (Tree Fairy will never contain "Fairytox", for the record, we promise). Forget foundation that sits on top of your face pretending everything underneath doesn't exist.
Healthy skin is the goal. That's it. That's the whole thing.
And here's what healthy skin actually does. Scars soften. Not overnight, not magically, but they lose their discomfort and quietly start to fade. Hydrated, moisturised skin gets a spring in its step, a natural glow that no highlighter can replicate. The kind of glow where you catch your arms in the right light and do a full gym bro double-take at yourself. (No shame. We've all been there. Or at least one of us has.)
I stopped wearing foundation. Not as a statement, not as a movement, just because my skin started looking better without it when I started Tree Fairy. I put it back on last week out of curiosity and immediately remembered why I stopped.
But the part that matters most to me personally? I'm a sensitive fairy. Eyes gunky every morning. Tears at the slightest provocation, like someone breathing near me. Constantly itchy skin from peri-menopause, worst around the jawline and neck. The kind of sensitive that makes you dread getting dressed because even fabric feels like a personal attack.
Getting away from products that claim to be natural but aren't changed everything. The itch went. The gunk went. The constant low-level irritation that I'd just accepted as my new normal, gone.
That's what healthy skin feels like. Not perfect. Not poreless. Just yours, comfortable, glowing, and finally on your side. The rest takes care of itself once it's healthy.
No beauty standards. No self-proclaimed influencers. No gender roles. Just healthy skin. And healthy skin is your best skin.
